Neck Pain

Neck pain can be very debilitating partly due to the fact that the neck supports the head where our sense of “self” tends to be focused.

There are many causes including muscle spasm, disc problems and facet joint restriction amongst others.

Here tests will be carried out to rule out any insidious or underlying causes that would mean referral back to the GP.

Once it has been established that it is safe to proceed, the aim would be to improve the alignment of the neck and to reduce the muscle spasm and inflammation that causes the pain.

Chiropractic Whole Body Approach

It is important to have a “whole-body” approach because if, for example, the pelvis is misaligned, the spine will not have a level platform to sit on.

The eyes will automatically try to remain level so the spine (including the neck) may have to twist in order to compensate for the lack of a level platform at the base.

A combination of McTimoney Chiropractic, Afferent Input Muscle testing and soft tissue work will usually get to the source of the problem and relieve the pain.

Where the body has undergone trauma, as in a road traffic accident, it is often useful to use Bowen Technique. This therapy is believed to allow the body to reset itself and help unwind the shock of the accident.
